Thousands of National Health Fund,(NHF) and Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme (JADEP) beneficiaries can now breathe a sigh of relief as the drug Amlodipine has been reintroduced to the list of drugs subsidized by the NHF.

Amlodipine is one of 49 drugs on the NHF Individual Benefits list which are used for the treatment of hypertension and ischaemic heart disease. The subsidy for the 5mg and 10mg presentations are $8.85 and $17.70 per tablet respectively. Also, recently added to the NHFCard drug List are the combinations- Amlodipine plus Atorvastatin, and Amlodipine plus Lisinopril. A completed list of subsidies for these presentations and others are provided on the NHF's website-www.nhf.org.jm.

In September 2010, the NHF suspended the subsidy for Amlodipine as a result of the Court of Appeal ruling that granted an injunction against the sale of generic alternatives of amlodipine available on the Jamaican market at that time.
