NHF Funded Portland Health Department Expansion and Upgrading Now Complete
The Portland Health Department, which also houses health centre facilities, now boasts a more comfortable work and service area with the completion of expansion and upgrading work done on the pharmacy and waiting area.
The project, funded by the National Health Fund to the tune of $13.8 million was completed in 23 weeks. A ceremony marking the completion of the works was held at the Health Department on Friday, October 12, 2012.
This facility is one of the many health facilities improved under the Health Sector Renewal Programme totalling $300 million. The work done included the construction of bathrooms and renovation of the existing ones, installation of plumbing fixtures, electrical works, painting, tiling, roofing, perimeter fencing and sewage disposal.
Health centres, such as this one, provide a vital service to communities across the island and the government has an obligation to improve these facilities for patients and the dedicated health workers.
